"I definitely recommend Conversation with Character!"
Conversation is becoming a lost art in today’s society. However, as the authors of Conversation with Character point out, relationships are what life is all about, and conversation is the primary tool we use to develop those relationships.
This book contains 22 lessons that will help your children (and even you!) develop better conversation skills. Each lesson starts with a brief discussion of a particular topic (starting a conversation, body language, etc.), and then offers activity ideas and discussion topics that will reinforce the lesson. The authors suggest covering no more than one lesson per week, and perhaps even taking two weeks for lessons that need extra attention. Each lesson is straightforward, and should require a minimum of lesson preparation time. In fact, spending just a few moments glancing over the new lesson is probably all the preparation a parent/teacher would need.
The book follows a logical sequence, beginning with a lesson on how to start a good conversation, and then moving on to topics such as focusing on others in conversation, interrupting, body language, avoiding gossip, showing honor to adults, and more.
The great thing about this book is that the lessons can be practiced anytime—you don’t need to set aside a lot of time to work on the lessons, or take time away from your other academic subjects. Family meals, riding in the car, visits with friends or family, all offer wonderful, natural opportunities to practice the lesson you’ve learned that week.
If you want to develop better conversation skills in your children, and raise them with the ability to communicate well with others, I definitely recommend Conversation with Character!
